As part of the Nigerian Air Force’s 60th anniversary celebrations, the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) organized a charitable event for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Durumi, Abuja. NAFOWA distributed essential food items including 50kg bags of rice, beans, semovita, 5-liter gallons of vegetable and red oil, cartons of spaghetti, spices, and toiletries. Additionally, they provided free medical services to the IDPs.
Mrs. Rakiya Abubakar, President of NAFOWA and wife of the Chief of Air Staff, emphasized that this outreach served over 100 families affected by insurgency and terrorism. She called upon other Nigerians and NGOs to support the victims, stating that the government alone could not address all needs.
The event highlighted NAFOWA’s commitment to its motto, ‘Service to Humanity,’ by supporting those displaced by insecurity, reaffirming their commitment to share resources and provide comfort.
The outreach included a medical team from the Nigerian Airforce, ensuring a comprehensive care approach. Dr. Bukola Olatunde, Vice President of NAFOWA, mentioned that some IDPs requiring further medical intervention were referred to appropriate facilities, with ongoing follow-up to ensure they receive necessary care.
Additionally, Mrs. Ngoze Aneke, chairperson of the NAF at 60 humanitarian and medical outreach, highlighted the needs for a hospital and school for the IDPs, urging more support from fellow Nigerians. One of the beneficiaries, Ladi Ayuba, expressed deep gratitude for NAFOWA’s efforts, noting the joy and appreciation felt by the community. The event was part of a series of NAFOWA activities nationwide, targeting not only IDPs but also orphanages and neighboring communities.
